Farrely, Frawley, O’ Farrell, O’ Farrely, O’ Ferrall, Ó Fearghaíl.
The modern Farrells, and variations on the name, are descended from the sept of Ó Fearghaíl which was located at Annaly in Co. Longford. The name of the county actually comes from the Clan name, its full Gaelic name being Longphuirt Uí Fhearghaíll, ‘O’ Farrell’s fortress’. The name comes from the personal name Fearghal, meaning man of valour. The Farrell name is now the 35th most numerous name in Ireland. It is most commonly found in the province of Leinster in the east of the country, particularly counties Longford, Meath and Westmeath.
The Farrell sweater has a trellis central panel, flanked by ropes, zig-zags and moss stitches on either side. The trellis stitch represents the stone walled fields of the Aran Islands, zig zags represent the ups and downs of marriage and moss symbolises nature. This beautiful Aran sweater has been knitted in the traditional báinín (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a clan history and crest. It is made of 100% merino wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been crafted in the traditional Irish style, and, with care, will last a lifetime.
