The surname Hanley or Hanly is the Anglicised form of the Irish name O Hainle – possibly derived from áulinn meaning beautiful. Nowadays the name is principally found in two areas, in Connacht - Counties Roscommon and Galway and in Munster in County Cork where it is spelt Hanley.
The Hanly sweater has a central panel of ropes flanked by cable and moss filled diamonds. The cable and rope stitch represent a wish for good luck. The diamond stitch symbolises a wish for wealth. This beautiful Aran sweater has been knitted in the traditional báinin (pronounced ‘baw neen’) colour, the natural white of the wool. It comes to you complete with a Clan history and crest. It is made of 100% pure new wool, is water repellent and breathable. It has been crafted in the traditional Irish style, and with care, will last a lifetime.
